Communication & Writing

Mini Magazine Creator

Write and design a mini magazine from scratch: headlines, feature articles, illustrations, advertisements, and more. Kids work with multiple text types in one project, learning how different writing styles serve different purposes. A publishing project that builds real writing range.

Ages 6–14 · Project guide · 3 skill levels

What's inside.

  • ✓Magazine creation project guide
  • ✓Multiple text type templates (articles, ads, editorials)
  • ✓Layout and design guidance
  • ✓

What they are actually learning.

Your child produces a whole magazine, and the point is that no two pages are the same kind of writing. An article, an advert, an editorial, a how-to, something interactive. Five writing styles in one project, each with a different job, all edited to hold together.

  • Writing: Informational, persuasive, creative, procedural and interactive writing in one publication, then edited for consistency
  • Research: Finding real facts and information to stand the articles up
  • Audience Awareness: Writing something a reader would actually enjoy and use, and laying it out to be read
Why it matters

A kid who can write a clear email, defend an opinion, or hold a real conversation is a kid who will be heard. Writing as a tool, not a school subject.
