Adventure Story Map

A visual story-mapping project that guides kids through planning and writing their own adventure narrative. They map out characters, settings, plot twists, and story arcs, then write the story. Creative writing meets spatial thinking in one hands-on project.

Ages 6–14 · Project guide · 3 skill levels

What's inside.

  • ✓Visual story map template and planning guide
  • ✓Character and setting development prompts
  • ✓Plot structure and story arc planning

What they are actually learning.

Your child maps a real place they know well, then sets an invented story inside it. The map forces them to translate a three-dimensional place they can walk through into a flat drawing, and the story forces them to notice the details that make a made-up event feel true. Descriptive writing gets much easier when the setting is a place they can go and stand in.

  • Writing: Building characters, plot and dialogue on a structured story arc, beginning through end
  • Observation: Noticing the real details in a place that make invented events feel authentic
  • Spatial Thinking: Translating a real three-dimensional space into a two-dimensional map
  • Creative Thinking: Imagining fictional events inside a setting they actually know
Why it matters

A kid who can write a clear email, defend an opinion, or hold a real conversation is a kid who will be heard. Writing as a tool, not a school subject.
